Chalice

The chalice, with an animated shape, has a mixed base composed of three moulded steps. The foot is divided into three areas by scrolls and plant motifs; in each of them, there is a pair of golden angel heads that seem to sing songs. A lush phytomorphic decoration intertwines with vine leaves and golden grapes. The knot, adorned with winged angelic faces, volutes and leafy elements, rests on a shaped graft, while a tulip bulb anticipates the glass of the scallop adorned with plant volutes, foliage, shoots and clusters. The alternation of silver and gilded, present on the entire object, highlights an eccentric light-and-shade effect and the showy and rich decoration links the artefact to a persistent baroque taste. An unreadable punch, imprinted in an interstice of the foot, is identifiable with the decussed keys surmounted by the Triregno, symbol of the State of the Church.
